There have been changes in the top three among importers of Russian wheat

In the first two months of the new season, Iran overtook Egypt in shipments of wheat from Russia.

According to the Logistic OS analytical platform for July and August 2021, Iran imported 1,325 million tons from Russia.

For the entire 2020/21 MY, more than 1.5 million tons were shipped to Iran from the Russian Federation.

Thus, in just two months of the new agricultural year, the volume of wheat exports to Iran from the Russian Federation almost equaled the volume of exports for the entire last marketing season.

Data on current shipments in the ports of Russia, Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria and historical data on grain shipments since 2012 can be generated on the basis of the Logistic OS analytical platform.

The system consists of several modules: Line-up, Export Date, Ratings, Ports, Cargoes, Vessels, as well as a large number of reference books.

Users are given the opportunity to use various analytical tools and download data in the format Excel.

Platform Logistic OS allows you to compare cargo export data by various characteristics: port, terminal, cargo, consignor, consignee country.

For this purpose, you can use the Export Date module, where you need to select a country, period for analysis, type of cargo and recipient country.

The resulting chart shows how much wheat was shipped to Iran from 07/01/2020 to 08/31/2021

Due to the drought and a decrease in its own harvest from 16.75 million tons last year to 15 million tons, Iran is increasing its imports of wheat.

According to preliminary USDA forecasts, the country could import 2.1 million tons of crops, although, based on current figures, the volumes could be significantly higher.

The pace of supplies taken by Iran since the beginning of the 2021/22 season allowed the country to take the second place among the top three, leaving Turkey ahead (about 1.7 million tons) and overtaking Egypt (about 1 million tons)

At the end of May 2021, at a meeting between the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev and the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Islamic Republic of the Islamic Republic, Kazem Hawazi, the issue of uninterrupted supplies of cereals from Russia to Iran was discussed in connection with a severe drought.

At the same time, Hawazi conveyed a proposal from the Iranian side about the possibility of becoming a regional hub for the export of Russian grain and other agricultural products to various countries.
