Rice harvest continues

The harvesting rate is lower than last year, but the quality is higher.

For half a year, rice prices have practically stood still, sometimes dropping below last year’s level.

This could not but cause concern for rice growers, because the cost of crop production is growing.

One of the reasons for the stagnation was the rather large remains of rice, which from April to September were 50-100 thousand tons more than in 2020.

Since the second half of September, the culture began to gradually rise in price and this week it costs 25-26 rubles / kg for paddy rice and 40-41 rubles / kg for cereal rice.

How the pricing environment will develop in the future depends on both the results of the harvest and the quality of the grain.

As of September 27, rice growers harvested from an area of 28.9 thousand hectares, which amounted to 179.4 thousand tons (data from the Ministry of Agriculture).

These figures are significantly less than last year: for this period, rice was threshed from 53 thousand hectares with a result of almost 340 thousand tons and a yield of 64.5 c / ha.

According to the data of the Southern Rice Union, the rate of rice harvesting lags behind last year’s almost three times: the harvest was harvested from 23.2 thousand hectares (70.3 thousand hectares in 2020).

The yield is also still lower: 66.2 kg / ha.

The decline in rice harvesting rates is primarily due to the fact that the sowing campaign, due to weather conditions, had to be carried out two weeks later.

But, later sowing shifted the phases of rice vegetation, so the period of grain filling took place in better conditions in terms of temperature and optimum humidity.

It is hoped that the harvest will be no less than in 2020, and the quality of the rice will be higher.

And these are the main components of the price movement of the new crop.

In the Krasnodar Territory, the harvesting campaign has entered an active phase, about 20% of the land has been harvested.
