Animal health through nutrition

ADM has opened a new laboratory in Rolle (Switzerland).

ADM, the world leader in human and animal nutrition, and the world’s leading agricultural production and processing company, has opened a new feed research laboratory.

The company currently employs over 140 scientists and technicians to develop innovative, science-based products.

In its work, the company adheres to several principles:

Stability.

The ongoing research program is aimed at solving one of the main problems of animal husbandry — mitigation of environmental impact.

Recently, for example, feed additives including plant extracts have been developed that mitigate methane emissions in ruminants.

Health through nutrition.

One of the key areas in the company’s activities aimed at improving animal health through nutrition.

Many clients are seeking to reduce the use of antibiotics as growth promoters, and to limit the use of drugs for prevention rather than treatment.

For this, pro- and postbiotic products will be developed that will increase the productivity of animals and reduce the amount of antibiotics used.

Production efficiency.

The laboratory develops a range of feed additives to optimize animal nutrition.

These include solutions aimed at supporting the immune system of dairy cows and supporting their productivity after calving, as well as new generation products for pigs that will support intestinal health and improve growth performance.

The issue of the quality of feed and feed additives supplied to Russia has been repeatedly raised by the Rosselkhoznadzor at meetings with industry unions.

The inspections of the department revealed numerous facts of falsification of information about the real composition of feed and the manufacturer of the raw materials used, which creates the risk of bringing in such diseases as African swine fever and avian influenza with products.

Rospotrebnadzor extended the transition period until March 25, 2022, during which both foreign exporters and Russian importers must resolve emerging quality problems and provide data to the department.

As of today, certification of products of 82 companies (296 names) has been renewed.

This year, Russia imported 327.6 thousand tons of feed products for productive animals, 140.9 thousand tons — for unproductive animals and 305.7 thousand tons of plant feed.

In total, more than 774.3 thousand tons of feed and feed additives were imported to Russia.
