Barley exports from Russia in 2021 amounted to more than $1.1 billion

High grain prices allowed for a 10% increase in shipping costs compared to 2020.

Despite the growth in value, in physical terms, the volume of exported barley decreased by 13.3% to 4 714 thousand tons (according to the Logistic OS analytical platform).

 

 

Traditionally, barley is the second most exported grain crop.

40.1% of exported barley (1 832 thousand tons) were shipped through Novorossiysk, the largest port in the South of Russia.

Iran became the largest barley importer (1 117 thousand tons).

 

 

Saudi Arabia reduced barley supplies from Russia by 50.9% to 1 019 thousand tons (in value terms, shipments decreased from $500 million to $256 million).

At the same time, Turkey increased the supply of barley from Russia by 196% from 366 thousand tons to 1 086 thousand tons (the cost of supplies increased from $47.5 million to $244.4 million).

In 2021, Russia opened new markets for the export of barley: Iraq (63.4 thousand tons) and Qatar (25.8 thousand tons).
