In 2021, Russia exported 1.121 million tons of peas

In the first half of the 2021/22 season, the same amount of crops was delivered abroad as in the entire previous agricultural year.

In 2021/2022, peas took one of the leading places in Russian agricultural exports along with wheat, barley and corn.

 

 

There is a growing interest in meat substitutes around the world, and pea consumers, as well as vegetable protein producers, are faced with a shortage.

Against the backdrop of falling crops in the leading crop producing countries, interest in Russian peas has increased significantly.

In 2020 (according to the analytical platform Logistic OS), Russia exported 549 thousand tons of peas, and in 2021 — 1.121 million tons.

 

 

At the same time, from July to December 2021, Russia exported almost the same volume of peas as for the entire 2020/21 agricultural year.

 

 

The main shipments passed through the ports:

Rostov-on-Don: 290.6 thousand tons.

Yeisk: 247.6 thousand tons

Azov: 211 thousand tons

Novorossiysk: 140.5 kt

By railway, 117.8 thousand tons were sent abroad.

 

 

The leading positions among pea exporters were occupied by:

LLC Top Grain L.T.D.: 205.7 thousand tons

LLC «TD RIF»: 158.4 thousand tons.

 

 

The structure of importing countries of Russian peas has changed: in 2020, Italy occupied the leading position (115.9 thousand tons).

 

 

And in 2021, Turkey took the first place, purchasing 278.3 thousand tons of peas from Russia.

 

 

In the world market, China is the largest importer of peas, the country’s share in world imports is 42%, Bangladesh (9%) and Pakistan (7%) also make up the «troika».

Research company Market & Market assumes that from 2020 to 2025 the volume of the global pea protein market may increase from $745 million to $1.4 billion, which creates prerequisites for increasing Russian production and export of peas not only as a raw material, but also as processed products.

 

Data on current shipments in the ports of Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Romania, historical data on shipments of grain since 2012 can be generated on the basis of the analytical platform Logistic OS.
