There is potential for growth

Within 10 years, Russian ports can increase grain shipments by 50%.

“Port shipments for the period January-March of the current year remained at the level of the same period in 2021”, — said Vladimir Petrichenko, CEO of the analytical company Prozerno, during his speech at the White Nights Baltic Grain Assembly, which was held in St. Petersburg.

According to available data, the largest port in terms of shipments was the port of Novorossiysk, followed by the Baltic port of Ust-Luga.

If last year in the structure of Russian port cargo turnover grain shipments took 5th place (about 42 million tons), then an increase in this figure to 60 million tons over 10 years (analysts believe that these figures are quite real) will allow grain shipments to reach 4th place .

At the same time, from year to year, the port of Novorossiysk is the leader not only in terms of total shipments, but also the leader in the shipment of grain and leguminous crops.

The reorientation of ports in the light of the changing political and economic situation will also increase the volume of grain shipments.

So, for example, Vysotsk Commercial Sea Port, which previously specialized in coal transshipment, began building a grain terminal.

The estimated transshipment capacity of the terminal will be 7 million tons.

Warehouses for 176 thousand tons of products will allow storing grain without loss of quality, unloading capacity will amount to 120 wagons per day (it is planned to build 12 km of railway lines).

The laboratory of the Grain Quality Assessment Center will operate at the terminal.

The next stage is the construction of a terminal for the transshipment of pulp, meal, legumes and oilseeds.

The demand for shipments through the Baltic ports is increasing, which requires the construction of special facilities for transshipment of agricultural products.
