Corn crowds out soybeans

The first elevator for drying and storage of corn is being built in the Amur Region.

The economic situation in the country and the world is changing very rapidly: what seemed obvious a year and six months ago is becoming questionable in terms of profitability.

Farmers are looking for new ways, including paying closer attention to corn, which is not inferior to soybeans in terms of profitability.

The Amur Region annually produces more than a million tons of soybeans. Farmers annually need about 100 thousand soybean seeds.

In the village of Zarechny, Blagoveshchensk district, a plant for the production of seeds and food soybeans is already operating, which has assembled domestic and foreign equipment for receiving, cleaning, polishing, calibrating, separating oilseeds and pre-sowing preparation.

This year, the new elevator plans to receive corn, which will be processed and turned into grain.

The construction of the complex, which will almost completely cover the needs of the Amur Region, began last year.

The first stage of the elevator, which is planned to be launched this year, is designed for a production capacity of 120 tons per hour.

The silos («towers») for raw and dry grain are already ready, now the construction of a working tower is underway, in which the initial processing of corn will be carried out.

Then the grain will go to the grain dryers and return back to the silo, and then go for sale or storage.

So far, processed corn will be stored in hangars, and next year the company plans to supply 10 containers specially designed for grain storage.

The complex is designed for 53 thousand tons, but if the demand grows, there are opportunities for further expansion.

Corn is not only a good partner for soybeans, but also a source of significant profit, which is why the region is betting on it, and not on grains.

In order to consistently get a high yield of soybeans, a competent crop rotation is needed, which is supported by cereals (wheat, barley and oats), but there are difficulties with their implementation.

And corn, having all the qualities necessary for crop rotation, has a profitability comparable to soybeans.

Tandem of soybeans and corn will allow farmers to get more gross profit per hectare.

In addition, corn has a high yield, but at the same time, it does not store for a long time and requires quick drying.

That is why it became necessary to build a complex for the processing and storage of corn.

There is interest in corn both from domestic buyers and from foreign partners.

Against the background of the introduction of duties on the export of corn, interest in domestic processing has increased: the production of animal feed, molasses, and corn oil.

Manufacturers expect that exports will continue to grow: companies from Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea and Japan are already cooperating with Russian manufacturers, and their number is growing.

Negotiations are underway with China.

In the Amur region, they believe that corn has a good future both for Russian producers, given its high profitability and use in crop rotation, and for foreign companies.
