In 2022, agricultural producers from the Russian Federation increased their purchases of mineral fertilizers by 16% compared to the same period of the previous year.
As a result, they purchased about 5.8 million tons.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, fertilizer manufacturers increased supplies to Russian farmers by 27% in 2022.
Fertilizer production is growing
If we talk about the production of mineral fertilizers, then in 2022 it generally increased.
For example, for most types of such fertilizers, an increase of 3% was noted.
True, for potassium chloride, the dynamics is completely different: a drop by as much as 35%. But this is largely due to the fact that this product was mainly exported, and its domestic consumption within the Russian Federation is quite insignificant, no more than 3%.
Manufacturers cope with sanctions
Last year they had a hard time, like most other Russian companies.
The sanctions have led to big problems with the charter of ships, their calls at ports, as well as with cargo insurance and transactions.
In addition, some foreign companies refused on principle to work with Russian suppliers.
“Nevertheless, the majority of large Russian producers, able to act flexibly in changing market conditions, were able to reorient their supplies to consumers in friendly countries,” the Russian Association of Fertilizer Producers (RAPU) said in a statement.
They also noted that any sanctions related to fertilizers could affect global food security.
Therefore, every effort should be made to unfreeze market mechanisms for the sale of such products.
Farmers actively buy fertilizers
In general, according to the calculations of the Ministry of Agriculture, this year Russian farmers will need about 5.6 million tons of fertilizers.
At the moment, they have already purchased about 20% of this volume, taking into account the large stocks that were made last season.
“We hope that manufacturers will provide domestic farmers with mineral fertilizers in full. We also expect that agricultural producers will purchase the entire volume of mineral fertilizers included in the plan of the Ministry of Agriculture,” said Andrey Guryev, President of the RAPU.
At the same time, Russian fertilizer producers must manage to provide agricultural producers with everything they need.
Currently, the production of fertilizers in the Russian Federation is at a high level, which was facilitated by 1.8 trillion rubles invested in this industry over the previous 9 years.
Thanks to this, the production of fertilizers increased by almost a third.
