Russia is increasing agricultural exports to Algeria

In 2021 and 2022, Russia consistently doubled the volume of agricultural supplies to Algeria. As a result, over the past 2 years they have grown several times.

First of all, such noticeable results were the result of the fact that Algeria began to buy much more Russian wheat.

According to the results of 2022, it even entered the top 5 countries, the most significant in the structure of Russian exports of this product.

If we talk specifically about the export of wheat to Algeria, then it has grown especially lately.

For example, in 2021 it was at the level of only 330 thousand tons, and in 2022 it reached the level of 1.3 million tons. That is, in fact, we are seeing an increase of almost 4 times.

At the same time, Russian wheat successfully competes in the Algerian market with the European one.

For the first time, deliveries to this state of the Russian Federation began in June 2021 after a 5-year break. She very quickly managed to secure her place as the most important exporter for this product.

If earlier wheat was mainly supplied to Algeria from France, now it is the Russian Federation that occupies a significant share.

Algerian buyers prefer Russian products because they are cheaper and completely satisfied in terms of quality. This information was provided by the Chairman of the Board of the Union of Grain Exporters Eduard Zernin.

Algeria actively buys Russian oil

Wheat is not the only type of agricultural product that is actively supplied to Algeria. In addition, supplies of vegetable oil are growing rapidly.

For example, in 2022, 190 thousand tons of soybean oil were supplied, which is 25% more than the value of the previous year.

At the same time, export earnings from this item increased by 45%. As a result, for soybean oil, Algeria has become one of the largest buyers in the structure of Russian exports: at the moment it owns about 30%.

In addition, 4,000 tons of sunflower oil and 3,000 tons of rapeseed oil were delivered.

In addition, exports of other agricultural products to Algeria are also growing: dried chickpeas — 3 times, potato flakes — 10 times, millet — 23 times.

What are the prospects for Russian exports to Algeria?

Algeria is a country that is 80% desert.

And although local authorities are doing a lot to develop their own agriculture, it is obvious that its dependence on agricultural imports will remain for many years to come.

At the same time, Russian exporters are ready to do everything to ensure that the Russian Federation not only remains a stable supplier in many areas, but also can increase supplies.

First of all, these are legumes and oilseeds, as well as vegetable oil.
