Oilseed production in the world will grow

The US Department of Agriculture notes that this year a total of up to 670 million tons of oilseeds can be harvested in the world, which is a record value.

If we really manage to collect such a volume of oilseeds, then this will be an increase of 7% compared to the previous season.

By the way, 670 million tons is not so much, considering that the world consumption of oilseeds is about 650 million tons per year.

At the same time, consumption is also expected to grow, but at a slower pace: by about 4%.

Consumption, according to the expectations of the US Department of Agriculture, should grow, including due to an increase in imports to China.

Which countries will be the main oilseed producers?

The American department is betting on Russia, Ukraine and the EU — these countries should give the most sunflower.

As for soybeans, it can be produced in sufficient quantities by the states of South America.

According to the forecast, it is Russia that will remain the world’s largest sunflower producer.

She received this status last year after she overtook Ukraine. Despite the fact that Ukrainian agrarians have replaced some grains with oilseeds, they still failed to achieve high rates.

USDA calculated that sunflower harvest in Russia last year amounted to 16.5 million tons against 16.25 million tons a year earlier.

According to Rosstat, the collection in 2021 was at the level of 16.35 million tons (the Russian agency also takes into account the Crimea).

At the same time, the Russian Federation will be able to export up to 4.1 million tons of sunflower oil, which is more than last year’s figure of 3.95 million tons.

From the European Union, US officials expect that this year it will be able to produce up to 11.5 million tons of oilseeds, which is significantly more than last year’s result of 9.3 million tons.

However, for such a forecast to become a reality, it is very important that this time on the territory of Europe more favorable weather is established than a year ago, because then the drought destroyed a significant part of the crop.

As for rapeseed, the European Union should remain the largest producer, followed by Canada and Australia in second and third place.

At the same time, the volume of the world crop is likely to not change significantly, remaining at the level of about 87 million tons.

A large increase in production is expected for soybeans: 410 million tons, which is about 11% more than last season.

The US Department of Agriculture expects that production will grow especially strongly at the expense of such countries as Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay.

At the same time, China will retain its position as the largest importer of this crop.
