China plans to invest in agriculture in Cambodia

China’s state-owned company Danong Agriculture Development Group plans to invest up to $12.7 billion in the development of agriculture in this country.

The main interest of China in such an investment is to subsequently ensure the export to China of products that will be produced in Cambodia.

First of all, we are talking about corn, as well as the meat of pigs and cattle.

For example, it is assumed that after reaching the design capacity, enterprises in Cambodia will be able to annually supply China with 100-200 thousand tons of pork.

In addition, it is planned to grow fodder grasses.

What exactly are you planning to build?

Danong Agriculture Development Group will have to carry out large-scale work, because up to 0.75 million hectares are expected to be developed under the project.

And we are talking about high-tech agriculture — digital and intelligent.

By the way, the investor company is the flagship of such agriculture in China.

Among other things, it will be necessary to develop all the necessary infrastructure and the irrigation system, as well as build factories, phytosanitary control facilities, and so on.

The Government of Cambodia plans to provide comprehensive assistance so that the implementation and launch of the project takes place as soon as possible.

At the same time, 12.7 billion dollars of investments will be distributed in this way: about 10 billion dollars will be spent on the construction of facilities for digital and intelligent farming, and about 2.7 billion more will be directed to the organization of a bank that will lend to the local population interested in take part in the implementation of this agricultural program or launch their own projects.

Plans go beyond Cambodia

In addition to the fact that this country can become a major exporter of agricultural products to China, it is also planned to turn it into a powerful transport hub through which agricultural products produced in neighboring countries can also be sent to China.

In particular, with an eye to this, a place was chosen where everything will be implemented: there are railway tracks nearby that lead from other countries through Cambodia to China.

“Chinese investors want our country to be able to export both live animals and meat to the Chinese market, and if businessmen in other neighboring countries also want to export these types of products to the Chinese market, they will first have to send them to our country for onward shipment. to the Chinese market, where the demand for meat products is huge,” said Duong Dara, assistant to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
