Russia increases wheat exports

Compared to last year, this September the export of this crop from the Russian Federation increased by approximately 27%.

According to the latest data from the Russian Grain Union, from September 1 to 18, Russia sent 3.3 million tons of wheat abroad.

The total grain exports for the specified period of time are at around 3.7 million tons. Compared to the same period last season, this is an increase of 20%.

The supply of corn increased the most – 1.7 times. True, in absolute numbers this is not so much – 24 thousand tons. Barley shipments, at the same time, dropped by 17% and amounted to about 375 thousand tons.

Which countries buy Russian grain today?

Over the past couple of years, the list of these countries has undergone significant changes.

Currently, Egypt takes first place in terms of purchase volume, which bought more than half a million tons of wheat, as well as Iran — over 270 thousand, and Indonesia — 225 thousand.

Next come Turkey, Sudan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Yemen, Pakistan, Morocco, Senegal, Tanzania. In addition, Brazil and Mexico joined the list of these countries.

The Russian Grain Union notes that the volumes supplied to these countries made it possible to largely compensate for the losses that Russia suffered due to the refusal to cooperate with some buyers who were previously in the top 5 in terms of grain purchases from the Russian Federation.

A feature of today’s wheat exports is also the fact that for the most part it is produced through deep-water Russian ports, including Novorossiysk. Grain shipments through it have increased by 50% over the past year.

Another feature was a significant decrease in the number of exporters who are directly involved in the sale and shipment of Russian agricultural products abroad.

If a couple of years ago there were 76, now their number has dropped to 18.

This is due both to the departure of many foreign companies from the Russian market, and to the fact that many Russian exporters do not have the necessary technical capabilities to carry out their activities in the changed conditions.

Russia becomes the leader in wheat exports

“Russian wheat does not have many competitors. Market prices are determined by Moscow,” Bloomberg recently wrote.

Indeed, the Russian Federation managed not only to deal with numerous financial and logistical difficulties, but also to achieve growth in export volumes. The American Ministry of Agriculture predicts that the share of Russian grain in the world market will only increase.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, $28 billion worth of Russian agricultural products have already been sold to world markets this year.

This is 25% higher than last year. But, according to experts, it is important that the situation with gasoline does not repeat itself: oil supplies abroad are breaking records, and fuel prices within the country continue to rise.
