Common problems in the agricultural sector open wide opportunities for Pakistan and China for cooperation in this area.
In recent years, China has been doing a lot to strengthen its food security.
For example, since 2015, China has annually invested about $10 billion in the creation and development of R&D, and since 2018 this amount has increased even more, since in parallel the development of rural areas is also carried out.
One of the trends that China is actively following is also the parallel development of environmentally friendly production, the use of tools that have minimal negative impact on the environment.
In particular, as part of this, the use of pesticides and nitrogen fertilizers in agriculture has been significantly reduced, and the volume of greenhouse gas emissions has been reduced.
All this together allowed us to obtain impressive results.
For example, in 2023, China harvested a very good harvest of 695 million tons. It is also important that the country has the capacity to store a comparable volume of grain – 700 million tons.
This significantly increases China’s food security and its import independence.
China can become an example for the development of the Pakistani agro-industrial complex
China and Pakistan are going to actively cooperate in the field of agriculture.
In particular, China plans to build about 9 scientific centers in Pakistan in the near future and share its experience. This will allow Pakistan to modernize its agricultural sector and open up new opportunities for it.
The second aspect in which Pakistan could borrow from China’s successful experience is, for example, the availability of inputs to farmers and land ownership.
China has carried out serious reforms in these areas to encourage farmers to actively engage in production and give them all the necessary opportunities to do so.
It is planned that, using the successful Chinese experience, Pakistan will also be able to overcome the accumulated difficulties.
Another area where countries can collaborate could be an environmentally friendly approach to food production.
If Pakistan borrows from the experience of its Chinese counterparts, it will be much easier for it to take a significant step in this direction. Including, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by bringing them into line with international standards.
It is emphasized that since both countries face similar problems, such as climate change, it will be much easier for them to overcome all difficulties through joint efforts.
