Russia remains a significant supplier of agricultural products to Azerbaijan

It is planned that as agricultural exports to Azerbaijan develop, their volumes may grow to $1 billion per year.

Russia is already one of the leading suppliers of agricultural products to Azerbaijan, but the growth potential in this area is far from exhausted.

This was discussed during the business mission of Russian exporters of agricultural products to Azerbaijan.

At the moment, as experts emphasize, Russia supplies Azerbaijan with almost a third of the total volume of agricultural products imported by this country.

Including such goods as wheat and sunflower oil, sugar and confectionery, soft drinks, meat. Moreover, growth is currently observed in almost all of these items.

The fundamental point is that Azerbaijan currently sets strengthening food security as one of its main goals in the agricultural sector.

Despite all efforts, the country is not yet able to fully provide itself with, for example, wheat.

For this reason, cooperation with Russia in the framework of wheat imports may be a strategically important task for Azerbaijan.

«Wheat can be used as an example. Azerbaijan certainly has its own production, but there is a need for additional volumes of high-quality food wheat.

This is ensured by imports, mainly from the Russian Federation,» said Sabuhi Sadigov, Chairman of the Board of the Agency for State Reserves of Azerbaijan.

Today, the volume of wheat supplies to Azerbaijan exceeds 1 million tons per year, which is a very significant indicator.

As for the supply of poultry meat, here we can see an increase of almost twofold over the past 2 years.

At the same time, according to analysts, Russia has every chance to take the place of the leading supplier of poultry meat to Azerbaijan in the future, and the emerging opportunities should certainly be used.

Dairy exports are not far behind.

According to the latest data, last year the volume of exports amounted to about 20 million dollars, and this year the growth continues, it can amount to a significant figure of several tens of percent. This applies to milk, kefir, cheeses and other products.

At the same time, Azerbaijan can also be considered by Russia as a hub for the subsequent export of agricultural products through it to other countries, which can make Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation in this area even more promising.
