Livestock products may increase their share in the structure of the global agro-industrial complex

Experts predict that the growth of the Russian agro-industrial complex by the end of the current year may amount to about 2%, largely due to livestock products.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) believes that consumption of livestock products in the world will gradually increase, following the growth of the population.

At the same time, the Asian region will play a significant role in shaping the demand for such products. It is assumed that about half of the growth in food consumption there will be meat and fish.

In middle-income countries, the trend of a gradual decrease in the consumption of plant products, such as wheat, and a shift towards livestock products will also continue, which can be associated with the rising cost of living.

Currently, the main meat producers on the planet are the following countries: China, the United States and Brazil.

Together, they produce half of all meat products, analysts emphasize.

In addition, such countries as India and Russia, Mexico, Spain, Germany, Argentina play a significant role in this sector of the agro-industrial complex.

For all of them, including Russia, the increase in meat consumption in the world is a positive trend, because it opens up good opportunities for export.

Overall, it is expected that by 2033, meat consumption on the planet will grow by about 12% compared to 2021 figures.

Therefore, livestock producers need to make an effort to keep up with consumption.

In particular, production growth can be achieved through such factors as improved animal selection, an increase in the weight of each carcass and the number of animals.

Experts plan to pay great attention to such issues as reducing the cost of livestock production. This can be achieved, among other things, by reducing losses in supply chains and food waste.

In a good scenario, by 2030, work in these areas can lead to the fact that prices for a number of livestock products can be successfully reduced, experts are sure.

The main producers of dairy products are India, Pakistan, China, Brazil, and Russia.

Milk production is expected to grow at a very rapid pace in the coming years, outpacing other livestock products, primarily due to India and Pakistan.

This could potentially strengthen global food security.
