Russia increases wheat gluten exports

According to the latest data, in the first half of 2025, the Russian Federation increased its foreign supplies of wheat gluten by about 2.5 times.

The development of food production and the animal feed industry leads to the fact that the demand for gluten in the world is currently steadily increasing, experts believe.

In this regard, Russia has the opportunity to consistently increase the volume of exports of such products, which it produces in large volumes.

In general, in January-June of this year, Russia exported about 7.5 thousand tons of such products.

The list of buyers includes several countries at once. Turkey is the leader in terms of purchase volumes, having purchased 2.5 thousand tons of gluten. It is noteworthy that compared to the first half of 2024, it increased import volumes by 2.3 times.

Saudi Arabia is in second place. Despite the fact that it first began purchasing Russian gluten in 2024, it has already reached significant volumes and imported about 1,000 tons of gluten in 2025.

In addition, India is among the top three importers, having purchased about 800 tons of gluten. This is 12 times more than at the beginning of 2024, so it can be said that exports to India are growing rapidly.

In addition to the listed countries, the list of buyers of Russian gluten also includes Israel and Brazil, Kazakhstan and South Korea, as well as South Africa, Chile, Vietnam and some other countries.

Thus, we can talk about a fairly wide diversification of supplies.

It is noteworthy that a few years ago, the main markets for Russian gluten supplies were the EU and North America, but due to the geopolitical situation, producers had to quickly turn towards Asia, Latin America and Turkey.

In addition, demand from the EU has now begun to recover, which can also be considered a big positive for the industry.

As a result, the demand for Russian products turned out to be so great that there are practically no stocks in warehouses at the moment, and even gluten from the new wheat harvest, which is currently being harvested, has already been contracted for a year in advance.

In general, experts see the positive in the fact that the Russian Federation is increasing gluten supplies.

“Russia is already a leader in wheat exports and has every opportunity to develop production and supplies abroad not only of grain, but also of its deeply processed products,” says Ilya Ilyushin, head of Agroexport.
