Agrarians of the Stavropol Territory have already opened a new season: after waiting for a short thaw, they started sowing spring crops.
Today, about 2 thousand hectares have been sown with peas and oats. At the same time, the total area that in the Stavropol Territory is planning to use this year for spring crops is 900 thousand hectares.
Thus, it is this region that will receive the «palm» for spring sowing in 2021. A year ago, the Crimea turned out to be a pioneer, but now it is very cold and there are knee-deep snowdrifts, so sowing will have to wait.
Krasnodar Territory has already mobilized in anticipation of the sowing season. This season is expected to harvest at least a year ago. Kuban is the leader in terms of used areas: it is planned to sow 1.8 million hectares with spring crops, including at least 740 thousand hectares with grain.
Particular emphasis is on soybeans and rapeseed — crops that are grown for export, as well as sugar beets and peas. This season, farmers want to sow an additional 70 thousand hectares with them.
However, given the introduction of export duties this year, there is no confidence that it will be possible to profit from the sale of rapeseed and soybeans on foreign markets.
The rest of the regions, including those located far from the south of Russia, are also gradually preparing for sowing. For example, this is Chelyabinsk . At present, the machinery is being put in order there, and the missing fertilizers are being purchased. And they also solve the issue of maintaining moisture in the fields. Fortunately, there is something to save: in winter, more than enough precipitation fell in the Urals.
What about the situation with winter crops?
In the fall, it aroused many questions and concerns: it was said that in a number of regions, almost half of all winter crops could be in the problem category, or even not grow at all. Today, optimism is gradually increasing. For example, in the Stavropol Territory it was reported that precipitation finally fell, so the safety of winter crops should be at least 86%. Approximately the same percentage of crops successfully overwintered in Crimea. The Governor of the Krasnodar Territory, Veniamin Kondratyev, said that everything is in order with their winter crops: their first planned fertilizing has already begun.
In general, farmers are determined that the harvest in 2021 should be no less than last year. And if the weather is more or less favorable, then new records are quite possible.
