Compared to 2020, it has decreased by 17%.
The decline in production was one of the reasons that led to the rise in oil prices.
The main factor that contributed to the decline in the production of sunflower oil in Russia in the season 2020-2021, experts call the low yield of sunflower.
In 2019, it was collected 15.3 million tons, in 2020 — only 13.3 million tons, which is less by as much as 14%.
Accordingly, the volumes of oil produced from this raw material have also decreased.
Refined oil: 1.1 million tonnes were produced this season (down 17%).
Crude oil: 2.7 million tonnes (also down 17% from the previous season).
Such data are provided by Rosstat.
Such trends could not but affect prices.
At the end of 2020, the Russian government began to take measures to curb the rise in oil prices. The first of them was an agreement with retailers, according to which the maximum cost of a liter of sunflower oil could not exceed 95/110 rubles (wholesale / retail).
Currently, the agreement has expired, but it is being replaced by export duties (for sunflower — already in force, for oil — will be introduced from September 1).
In addition to the poor harvest last year, high exports were an important factor that «pushed up» oil prices.
In the second half of 2020, up to 1.6 million tons of sunflower were exported from Russia abroad, which is twice as much as in the previous year.
How will the situation change after the new harvest?
Experts hope that this year’s high harvest will help correct the situation.
According to Sovekon, farmers can harvest up to 15.9 million tons of sunflower, which is even higher than the 2019 record. In this case, the shortage of raw materials for processing enterprises is guaranteed to disappear.
In addition, the introduced duties will have to play a role, which restrict the sale abroad, first of all, of unprocessed sunflower, which will stimulate farmers to load Russian rather than foreign enterprises with work.
Whether the price of butter in stores will go down is a moot point, since the rise in food prices is largely due to the widespread inflation of currencies.
Currently, a liter of oil costs about 94.2 rubles.
At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation believes that the price could be reduced by the producers’ compensation for a part of their costs.
At the same time, there should definitely not be a shortage of oil.
According to the data of 2020, which can be considered unsuccessful in terms of the sunflower harvest, Russia’s self-sufficiency in sunflower oil amounted to 195.9 %.
This year, if it is possible to collect a large harvest, there is every reason to assume that this figure will be even higher.
