Turkey showed record numbers for the export of vegetables and fruits in 2020-2021.

But natural disasters can negatively affect further results.

From July 31, 2020 to August 1, 2021, Turkey exported vegetables and fruits for a record amount for itself: more than $ 3 billion.

The country’s agricultural sector has suffered less from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic than other industries: the export of fresh vegetables and fruits increased by 208%.

Tangerines are the most in-demand products: $ 454 million

Tomatoes rank second: $ 336 million

Turkey exports fresh fruits and vegetables to 150 countries around the world.

Russia has become the main importer of vegetables and fruits, importing these products for $ 1 billion.

Germany came second with $ 273m

Third place Iraq: $ 255 million

Ukraine and Romania are also among the five largest importers.

New promising markets have also emerged: Spain, Bangladesh, India, Great Britain and the UAE.

The main products that went from Turkey abroad: tomatoes, cherries, tangerines and pomegranates. Apples, lemons, peaches and nectarines were in good demand.

But the ongoing natural disasters, according to experts, could cause significant damage to the agriculture of Turkey, which will inevitably affect the supply of vegetables and fruits.

If greenhouses are affected, then the prices for greenhouse vegetables, primarily tomatoes, may rise, and for Russia Turkey is one of the main suppliers of these vegetables.

The same picture can develop with citrus fruits, the export season of which is still ahead.

Turkey supplies large volumes of grapes and peaches to Russia, but their season has already passed.

Importers are studying the situation.
