Structure of importing countries of Russian grain and leguminous products

Brief analysis based on the Logistic OS analytical platform database.

The geography of Russian grain exports continues to expand: if in 2020 it was bought by 138 countries, then in 2021 this figure increased to 147 countries.

Turkey was the main buyer of Russian products in 2020: among the 20 largest importing countries, its share was 21.6%.

 

77.5% of the total volume of imported Russian grain products was wheat.

Sunflower seeds took a share of 6.67%, corn — 6.57%.

In 2021, the structure of importing countries has undergone some changes:

Turkey retained its leading position, increasing its imports of grains and legumes from Russia by 10.9%.

Among the TOP-20 importing countries, the volume of deliveries to Turkey amounted to 26.5%.

 

Iran ranked second among the main buyers of Russian grain and leguminous products: its share among the TOP-20 importers was 18.5% (10.8% in 2020).

In 2021, exports of grains and legumes to Iran from Russia increased by 53.5%.

Egypt, one of the permanent leaders among buyers of Russian grain, has shifted to third place:

in 2016-2018 the country topped the ranking of importing countries,

in 2019-2020 ranked second in the top three.

In 2021, exports of grain and leguminous products from Russia to Egypt decreased by 28%.

In 2021, work to expand the Russian grain export market continued: the possibility of supplying Russian wheat directly to processing enterprises was agreed with the Mexican authorities.

Negotiations are ongoing with the authorized bodies of Vietnam and Indonesia.

India has agreed on the possibility of fumigating Russian grain in transit using aluminum phosphide.

Also, a trial batch of Russian lentils will be sent to the country: after laboratory tests, a decision will be made on further cooperation between our countries.

The coordination of deliveries of Russian buckwheat to the market of Peru is coming to an end.

Following the meeting of the heads of Russia and China, a decision was made to allow the supply of wheat and barley to China from all regions of the Russian Federation (previously, exports were possible only from 7 regions, including Altai, Krasnoyarsk Territories, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Amur, Chelyabinsk and Kurgan Regions).
