In 2021, Turkey became the largest importer of Russian agro-industrial products: the country purchased a total of 13 million tons of products worth $4.3 billion, increasing purchases by 38%.
The dynamics of increasing imports of Russian agricultural products allowed Turkey to overtake China in the ranking of importing countries.
Exports from Russia to Turkey declined slightly in the second half of 2021, driven by a sharp drop in shipments in October due to the depreciation of the Turkish lira.

Traditionally, Turkey has been the main buyer of oilseeds and sunflower oil from Russia: in 2020, sunflower was in the TOP-3 agricultural products exported to the country.
After the introduction of restrictive duties on sunflower exports in Russia, Turkey had to increase purchases of crude sunflower oil, while sunflower purchases in 2021 came to naught.
In 2020, Turkey imported $15.2 billion worth of agricultural raw materials and food products from abroad, 20% of this volume fell on Russian products.
By 2030, the potential of food supplies from Russia to Turkey exceeds $5 billion.
