Russia and the Philippines are developing cooperation in the agricultural sector

On June 22, a meeting was held in the Philippines, which was attended by delegates from Russian government departments and companies, as well as representatives of local businesses.

On the Russian side, the meeting was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and the federal center Agroexport.

From the Philippine side — the departments of agriculture, as well as trade and industry.

The events lasted 3 days. According to the latest data, over 200 different meetings between Russian exporters and Philippine importers took place during this period.

In particular, the Russian delegates visited local food retail chains.

What are the prospects for cooperation?

The head of Agroexport, Dmitry Krasnov, believes that there are many opportunities for mutually beneficial work.

“Russia can become a major supplier of agricultural products to the Philippine market and is ready to offer a wide range of agricultural products and high quality food products.

We saw genuine interest on the part of the Philippine business and we can already state the high productivity of the meetings,” he said.

The most interesting thing for the Philippine business would be to increase the supply of Russian meat, including chicken. It is no coincidence that representatives of the National Meat Association arrived as part of the Russian delegation.

By the way, the supply of chicken meat from Russia to the Philippines was already carried out until 2021, but then a ban followed, which was associated with the coronavirus pandemic and the destruction of supply chains.

However, now there is a chance to correct this situation. At the same time, the most important thing, according to business, is to remove all existing restrictions.

In addition, you need to restore all the destroyed chains. For example, the situation with the charter of sea vessels, which are urgently needed for Russia to be able to ship grain and other agricultural products to the Philippines, is now beginning to return to normal.

At the same time, Russia is a very promising exporter for the Philippines due to the fact that it produces agricultural products of high quality, and, moreover, in large volumes.

At the same time, the Philippines can become a very attractive partner.

As Ksenia Bolomatova, Deputy General Director of OZK JSC, noted, this country is one of the largest grain importers in Southeast Asia.

For example, it annually imports up to 6.6 million tons of wheat, and Russia has now accumulated large surpluses from last year’s harvest of this crop.
