Russian regions are increasing exports of agricultural products

Exports of agricultural products from Russia are constantly increasing, with only a few regions providing the lion’s share of volumes, experts say.

At the moment, the undisputed leaders in this area are:

— Rostov region

— Belgorodskaya

— Orlovskaya

— Lipetskaya

— Vologda

— Tyumen

— Yaroslavskaya

— Pskovskaya

— Primorsky Krai

In total, they produced more than 70% of all agricultural products, which were eventually sold abroad.

At the same time, diversification of production by region is still underway.

For example, in 2017 there were 17 regions for which the export of agricultural products brought more than $200 million, and now there are already 35 such regions.

This is important at least from the point of view of ensuring continuity of supplies: in one particular area, due to weather and other conditions, there is always a risk of harvesting less than planned.

And the wider the diversification, the greater the chance that the country as a whole will maintain its position in the international market.

In addition, the geography of exports is expanding, and the list of countries that purchase Russian products is constantly increasing.

This is largely due to the general reorientation of the Russian Federation from West to East, but for each specific region it is also very important to have a wide export geography in order to be less dependent on the geopolitical situation and other possible problems.

The development of agricultural exports is very important for the regions

For example, there is data that in 2017 Udmurtia received about $1.7 million from agricultural exports, and last year this figure increased to 10.8 million.

By 2030, it is planned to increase it to $100 million. This is very significant money for both local companies and the regional budget.

The Lipetsk region, which is among the leaders, is already holding a level that many other regions can only dream of.

This year we managed to receive $900 million from the export of agricultural products, while last year it was $730 million.

This region plans to overcome the $1 billion mark next year. This is quite likely because export growth has been growing at a steady rate of 25% per year for several years now.

Experts note that agricultural exports provide the Lipetsk region with the most money, not counting ferrous metallurgy.

As Russian Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev noted, in general Russia is going to export agricultural products worth up to $45 billion this year, and the actual volume may be even higher.

This is an increase compared to last year: then the volume was about $42 billion.
