Russia expects record oilseed harvest

According to the latest data, Russia may harvest up to 28 million tons of oilseeds this year, which is quite a good result.

Russia may harvest 28 million tons of oilseeds this year, of which sunflowers make up the lion’s share.

However, a record harvest of other crops is also expected. For example, the soybean harvest may amount to 7 million tons, and the rapeseed harvest — 4.6 million tons. Such data were announced by the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Oksana Lut.

At the same time, last year the rapeseed harvest was about 6.8 million tons, and the rapeseed harvest — 4.2 million tons.

Today, the harvesting campaign has already been completed in most of the country, and the actual harvest volumes are approaching those announced by the minister.

As for sunflowers, record values are also expected in a number of regions of the country. In particular, we are talking about the Volga region and Altai.

It is interesting that the cost of oilseeds has also increased significantly in recent months.

For example, soybeans have increased in price by about 4 thousand rubles per ton over the year, from 41 thousand rubles to 45 thousand rubles. Such dynamics are observed in the Central Federal District.

In the Volga region, the dynamics are even more significant: soybeans have increased in price from 37 thousand rubles per ton to 46 thousand rubles, which is an increase of as much as 9 thousand rubles per ton.

But in the Far East, which is a large soybean-producing region, but mainly focused on exports to China, the cost of soybeans has hardly changed and is still about 37 thousand rubles.

Experts note that today world prices for oilseeds are also showing growth, and this may become the most important factor influencing, among other things, the rise in soybean prices within Russia.

As for the cost of rapeseed, it should be noted that it is also growing.

For example, in the Central Federal District of Russia a year ago the cost of a ton of rapeseed was 36 thousand rubles, now it has approached the mark of 43 thousand rubles.

In the Southern District, the price increase was from 35 thousand rubles to 42 thousand rubles per ton, due, among other things, to unfavorable weather conditions, in particular drought and high temperatures, which were observed in the summer.

Against the background of such dynamics, analysts predict that farmers in Russia will increase the sowing area for oilseeds, since they are high-margin crops that can provide companies with maximum profit from each hectare.

In particular, the expansion of areas can occur due to the active plowing of new lands and their introduction into agricultural circulation.
