Compared to 2017, the oat harvest in the Russian Federation decreased by 2.2 million tons, and the area under this crop is also decreasing.
In 2023, 1.8 million hectares in Russia were sown with oats. This is 15% less than in the previous year, noted Vladimir Petrichenko, general director of the analytical company ProZerno.
The harvest has also decreased significantly, according to Rosstat. In 2023, farmers managed to harvest only 3.3 million tons of oats, which is 27% less than in 2022.
In addition, the yield also decreased, and the decrease was 15%, which is a noticeable amount.
At the same time, oat exports are growing. For example, from the beginning of this year until March 10, Russia sent about 128 thousand tons of grain abroad.
This is 67% more than the same period last year: then this parameter amounted to 72 thousand tons.
The main buyer of Russian oats today is China; it increased purchases by 65%, bringing them to 98 thousand tons.
The second major buyer of this agricultural crop was Israel.
It is noteworthy that previously he did not buy Russian oats at all, but in 2023 he purchased about 16 thousand tons. Elena Tyurina, director of the analytical department of the Russian Grain Union, spoke about this.
At the same time, export rates remain high this year. In just 2 months, January and February, about 64 thousand tons of oats were exported, which is 3.5 times more than in the same period last year.
China was again the largest buyer, accounting for about 60% of the total supply. China purchased about 64 thousand tons of oats, which is 3.5 times more than in January and February 2023.
At the same time, the supply of oats also increased significantly in monetary terms. They increased by 3.6 times and reached a value of about $15.7 million.
In addition to China, Mongolia also turned out to be a notable importer of Russian oats. She increased his purchases 10 times, the total amount was about $3.5 million.
In general, it is planned that grain exports will continue to remain at a high level.
Grain exports last year reached 66 million tons, including 51 million tons of wheat. Our country maintains its leading position in the world market for wheat exports.
Despite the increase in production costs, Russian grain remains one of the most competitive products on the world market due to the combination of price and quality,” notes First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut.
The area under grain crops will not decrease this year, but the area under grain legumes should even increase.
