Fruit and vegetable prices are falling in Russia

According to the latest data, annual inflation in Russia has decreased over the past week, a significant contribution to this was made by the decline in prices for fruits and vegetables.

By July 29, annual inflation had decreased to 9.11%, although the week before it was at 9.11%. Such data is provided by the Ministry of Economic Development.

At the same time, inflation in food prices as a whole decreased to 0.03%, and for fruits and vegetables it decreased much more. Experts attribute this to the seasonal factor, since it is now that Russia is harvesting most crops.

As for the decline in inflation as a whole, the reason may be the increase in the Central Bank rate, which last week raised it to 18%.

According to the regulator, inflation is still a serious problem, and the forecast for it for next year has even been increased.

Which types of products have fallen in price the most?

Over the past week, there has been a 5% decrease in prices for cucumbers, 0.5% for tomatoes, 2% for carrots, and 1% for potatoes. Cabbage, on the contrary, showed the opposite trend and rose in price by 2%.

Overall, according to the latest statements from the Ministry of Agriculture, the current year has demonstrated a good trend in terms of vegetable harvesting.

In particular, 440 thousand tons of open-ground vegetables have been harvested since the beginning of the year, which is 95 thousand tons more than in the same period last year.

Greenhouse vegetables also showed a 2% increase in production, to 990 thousand tons. Of this volume, 410 thousand tons are tomato crops, 570 thousand tons are cucumber crops.

We also see that apples are getting cheaper. In particular, their price has dropped by about 2% in the last week alone.

The Ministry of Agriculture states that despite the difficult weather conditions, which primarily mean the May frosts, the Russian market is fully supplied with this type of product, as well as berries and fruits.

Moreover, the harvest of these crops in the current season may be a record and be at the highest level in the last 5 years.

In addition to fruits, vegetables and berries, we can also observe a decrease in prices for some other types of food products.

For example, chicken has become almost 0.5% cheaper compared to last year.

Experts believe that this is due to the stable epizootic situation that has developed in Russia at the moment. It has led to the fact that production volumes have increased, and this, in turn, has allowed prices to decrease.

A similar situation is with chicken eggs. Over the month, they, depending on their category, have shown a decrease in prices by 1-6%.
