Thailand could become an important market for Russian agricultural products

A business mission of Russian companies exporting agricultural products, organized by the Federal Center «Agroexport» jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, has started in Bangkok.

Thailand may become an important market for Russian agricultural products in the near future, according to experts who gathered in Bangkok.

The event was attended by more than 20 Russian producers and about 50 Thai importers, as well as supervisory authorities from both sides.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia Sergey Levin noted that Thailand is a strategic partner for the Russian agricultural industry.

Currently, the total volume of bilateral trade is at the level of about 2 billion dollars, and a significant part of this volume is accounted for by agricultural products.

As for plans to increase cooperation in this area, Russia plans to focus primarily on increasing the volumes of grain and frozen fish sent to Thailand.

However, these are far from all the types of products that may be of interest to the Thais. Experts also note that beef, pork and poultry supplies to the Thai market may begin in the near future.

However, first it is necessary to obtain permission to begin such supplies, which may encounter a number of bureaucratic obstacles. As for fish and milk supplies, they are currently already underway, but the volumes are still small, which opens up a wide range of opportunities for their increase.

Supplies from Russia to Thailand of such products as feed and grain are also very promising.

Analysts note that Thailand annually imports feed and grain for more than $1.5 billion. The Russian side plans to expand supplies in order to increase its share of the Thai import market.

In the future, it is noted that Thailand is quite capable of becoming an export market for agricultural products from Russia worth about $200 million.

Experts believe that it is quite possible to reach this level by 2030.

At the same time, Russia not only supplies agricultural products to Thailand, but also purchases them there. First of all, we are talking about the supply of tropical fruits.

From this we can conclude that the agricultural sectors of both countries complement each other well, so further expansion of cooperation may be very beneficial for both parties.

It is planned that the business mission will help establish new useful contacts and conclude specific agreements.
