Brazil increases grain production

Analysts expect that in the new season, Brazilian farmers can harvest 8% more than in the previous one.

The Brazilian National Supply Company (Conab) notes that in the season that has begun, Brazil can harvest up to 322 million tons of grain.

This is about 8% more than in the previous season. At the same time, the sowing area will be expanded by 1.5 million hectares and will amount to 81 million hectares.

Favorable weather conditions should also contribute to a high harvest.

“The rains that have fallen so far have had a beneficial effect on crops in the main producing states.

In some places, we have had short periods without rain, but not such a long drought as to affect the assessment of a new record of grain production in Brazil,” notes Edegar Pretto, President of Conab.

In general, experts believe that Brazil has every chance of becoming one of the leading grain producers in the world. This is facilitated, among other things, by the fact that a significant part of the country has the ability to harvest two crops per year.

And given that Brazilian farmers are consistently expanding their sown areas year after year, the chances of Brazil’s role in the global grain market are increasing even more.

It is noted that the new season is starting quite favorably.

For example, soybean sowing is almost complete at the moment: almost 95% of the sown area allocated for oilseeds has been sown, which is about 47 million hectares.

At the same time, the weather in most Brazilian regions was favorable for sowing, and drought, which is one of the main enemies of farmers, was only short-term.

Therefore, there is reason to expect that the soybean harvest in the season that has begun will exceed last year’s figures by about 12% and will amount to about 166 million tons.

Rice sowing is 85% complete, while its area has increased by 10% compared to last year and has already reached 1.8 million hectares. The total production of this crop should increase to 12 million tons.

As for corn, there are also favorable forecasts for it.

It is expected that its harvest will reach about 120 million tons, which is more than 3% higher than the previous year.

It is emphasized that corn sowing is already about 70% complete, while in most regions, weather conditions are also currently favorable.

At the same time, Brazil is expected to produce about 8 million tons of wheat, which is close to last year’s value.

The lack of positive dynamics here is due to the fact that in the southern regions, the sowing area has decreased by about 14%.
