Construction of the first sugar beet processing plant will begin in the Rostov region

Commissioning is scheduled for 2022-2023.

Plans for the construction of a sugar plant in the region have been around for a long time: back in 2012, at an investment forum in Sochi, an agreement was signed between the International Sugar Corporation and the regional government.

Initially, the project cost was estimated at 10 billion rubles, in September 2020 — 16-17 billion rubles.

To date, the volume of investments required for the project has grown to 20 billion rubles.

The project will be financed by Russian and Chinese investors, who have confirmed the investment of their own funds in the amount of 3 billion rubles.

Negotiations are also underway with banks on project financing.

So far, the entire volume of sugar beet grown is being processed at the sugar factories of the Kuban and other neighboring regions.

It is planned that the new enterprise will process up to 12 thousand tons of beets per day.

Initially, the project is aimed at exporting all manufactured products, but in case of a shortage of sugar in the country, the goods will go to the domestic market.

According to the project, the plant being built will be the most modern in Russia.

In addition, it will be built literally a step away from raw materials, which will make it efficient in terms of logistics.

From the point of view of focus on export, the location of the enterprise is also very successful — the plant will be located in the immediate vicinity of the Don ports.

In 2021, the Rostov Region increased the area under sugar beet sowing by 15% compared to the previous year.
