This year, Russia earned 32% more on agricultural exports to Europe

At the same time, the physical volumes of exports in January-August 2021 remained practically unchanged (+ 2.9%). But in value terms, export income increased by almost a third.

The total revenue from Russian agricultural exports amounted to $ 2.4 billion.

The main sources of income are:

Meal and cake.

Fish.

Grain.

At the same time, the volume of wheat exports amounted to 737 thousand tons (+ 93%). Grain revenue increased 2.4 times ($ 189 million).

Interestingly, Russia receives the main income from European exports not from grain, but from the following product categories:

Meals ($ 420 million).

Crustaceans ($ 263 million)

Fish fillet ($ 238 million).

Frozen fish ($ 224 million).

As you can see, seafood brings the lion’s share of export revenue .

This is due to the fact that the EU is located not far from Russia, and to an even greater extent — with a high standard of living in Europe, which allows the population to purchase expensive imported products.

It is assumed that fish will allow the Russian Federation to receive even more money from Europe in the future.

“We see intensive construction of a new fleet in the Northern and Far Eastern basins, as well as processing plants, in connection with which Russia will increase supplies of deep processing products to the external market.

Our producers were able to adapt to China’s imposition of very stringent requirements for the import of fish products by redirecting flows both to the domestic market and to other countries, including the EU, «said Konstantin Drevetnyak, General Director of the Union of Fishery Industries of the North.

The top buyers of Russian products among the EU countries include the Netherlands (80% fish), Latvia (grain, meal, beet pulp), Germany (fish, cake).

In general, over the past 5 years, Russia has increased the supply of agricultural products to European countries by 75%.

In addition to these categories, exports of animal feed, oil, rice and mayonnaise have grown significantly.

Since Russia produces more oil than it consumes, this opens up good opportunities for increasing exports, including to Europe.

Moreover, the idea of switching to environmentally friendly energy sources is being actively developed there.

And in this regard, the popularity of rapeseed oil, a raw material for the production of biodiesel, may increase.

However, according to experts, in order to move in this direction, government support is needed.

First of all, it concerns creation of export infrastructure, starting from seaports.
